The only way to build a successful business is through productive employees. When your staff are happy and healthy and invested in the success of your business, they will work hard to help you realize your vision.

However, so many businesses make simple mistakes that kill productivity and that’s why they struggle to get things off the ground.

The thing is, most of the issues that affect productivity are easily fixed so you should be able to turn things around very quickly. These are some of the avoidable problems that are killing productivity in your business.

Burnout

The biggest mistake that you can make with your employees is thinking that more hours means more work gets done, because it’s simply not true. It’s easy to see why people would think that but the opposite is actually true.

When employees are overworked, they will be very stressed and they will suffer from burnout. People do not work productively when they are incredibly stressed and research shows that people actually have a higher output when they work fewer hours and have more time to recharge their batteries.

That’s why it’s important that you manage your employee’s work hours effectively and make sure that you are giving them plenty of time off. If you do this, you’ll find that they are a lot more productive when they are at work.

Technology Issues

Your employees rely on technology to do their job properly so if it isn’t working correctly and things are always breaking, it’s going to cause a big dip in productivity. The best way around this is to hire a good IT company to handle routine maintenance on all of your computers and software.

A lot of companies make the mistake of waiting until there is an issue and then calling somebody out to repair it, but that means you will always have a period of downtime while things are being fixed. What you should be doing instead is avoiding those problems in the first place.

Feeling Undervalued

Feeling undervalued at work is a common problem for a lot of people and it seriously affects productivity. If an employee feels that the company doesn’t care about them, why should they work hard to help it succeed? There are a few different reasons that people feel undervalued but pay is one of the big ones. If you are not offering a good salary and you don’t give pay increases to people that have been with you for a long while, they will start to feel that you don’t value their work.

Good pay and benefits are vital if you want people to work productively. It’s not just about money though. Sometimes, it’s important that you just vocalize your appreciation and let people know that you are grateful for their hard work.

If you can fix these simple problems in your business, you will see a big increase in productivity in no time at all.
